Nintendo Removes ‘The Last of Us’ Inspired Game from eShop After Copyright Infringement Allegation

According to Eurogamer’s Victoria Kennedy, Nintendo’s game The Last Hope: Dead Zone Survival has been taken down from the Switch e-shop because it closely resembles Naughty Dog’s popular game, The Last of Us. Sony, the owner of Naughty Dog, filed a copyright claim against The Last Hope just a month after its release. This action not only removed the game from the market but also resulted in the removal of its trailer from YouTube.

The Last Hope probably won’t miss out, as the game didn’t exactly receive good reviews, with Digital Foundry calling it “the worst game we’ve ever tested” and Yahoo simply calling it “terrible looking.” Widespread comparisons to The Last of Us were made immediately after the game’s release, including similarities between the high-quality Ellie and the fuzzy (but almost identically styled) Eva from The Last Hope. Yeah, it certainly didn’t do itself any favors.

If for some reason you had a strong affinity for the game, it will still be available to anyone who previously downloaded it. Otherwise, visiting its page in Nintendo’s online store will give you an error message. If you had avoided the drop, this will be the last time you ever have to think about it.
